A week-long photography exhibition of photos from "Umanita' Ininterrotta" (written by ASCS Onlus) from June 6th to June 10th, 2022, and an afternoon panel discussion on June 9th from 13:00 to 14:30 entitled “What is Freedom? Who is Free?”. Both events were organized by Marta, and the panel was moderated by Georgios Tsagdis. The panel speakers included the wonderful Gian Andrea Franchi, Lorena Fornasir, Abdul Saboor, Chale Guadamuz, Serena Zuanazzi, and Davide Pignata!
The panel consisted of the founders of the volunteer organization La Linea d’Ombra - Gian Andrea Franchi and Lorena Fornasir. The organization collects funds to support migrants in need. We were further joined by Chale Guadamuz, CEO of The Hague Peace Project; Abdul Saboor, Afghan refugee and photographer; Serena Zuanazzi, geographer working for One Bridge to Idomeni; and Davide Pignata, volunteer for ASCS- Scalabrinian Agency for Development Cooperation. A big thank you goes out to the moderator of the day, Georgios Tsagdis. Thank you for doing an amazing job in engaging with the audience!
The guests and panelists shared valuable pieces and emotional stories on the difficulties migrants face on the Balkan Route, a known route of ‘irregular migration’ that begins in Turkey and Greece and climbs up through the Balkans towards Germany. Some of them experienced difficulties themselves, some were on the ground to help and support those in need.
Major takeaways for the audience include the immense power of grassroots movements and the need for stronger aid mechanisms that can support refugees.
